Privacy Policy

Last updated: July 2026

Wakey ("we", "us", "our") makes the Wakey Alarm mobile app ("Wakey" or "the App"). This policy explains what information the App collects, how it's used, and your choices. Wakey does not require you to create a traditional user account or sign in with an email address.

1. Information We Collect

While Wakey is designed to minimize data collection, certain features require the processing of specific information.

App Usage & Settings: Alarm settings and preferences (times, labels, sounds, volume, mission choices) are stored primarily in a local database on your device.

Accountability Buddy Data: If you enable the Accountability Blast feature, you provide a buddy's name and phone number. We do not store the raw phone number on our servers. When an opt-in or alert SMS needs to be sent, the number is briefly processed by our backend. We securely store a one-way cryptographic hash of the number solely to maintain their YES/STOP consent status (see Section 3).

Subscription/Purchase Status: Pro subscription purchases are handled by RevenueCat and Apple's App Store using an anonymous, device-linked identifier. We do not receive your name, email, or payment details for these App Store purchases.

Wake-Up Stakes Data (Device Identifiers & Penalty State): If you opt into the Wake-Up Stakes feature, the App generates a random, anonymous device identifier (installId). Our servers store this identifier alongside your selected weekly financial cap, your chosen charity, and a rolling log of your missed wake-ups to calculate and batch accrued penalties.

Payment Information (Stripe): To process Wake-Up Stakes penalties, you must link a payment method (ACH bank account or credit/debit card). Wakey does not collect, process, or store your raw bank account numbers or full credit card details. This information is provided directly to our third-party payment processor, Stripe. We only receive and store secure, anonymized tokens (such as a Stripe Customer ID and SetupIntent ID) associated with your installId to authorize batched charges.

Microphone Data: We do not collect or record audio. The Mic Check wake-up mission is a local self-report confirmation on your device, not an audio recording.

Tracking Technologies: We do not use analytics SDKs, advertising SDKs, or any technology that tracks you across other companies' apps or websites.

2. How We Use Your Information

We use the collected information strictly to operate the App:

3. Accountability Buddy Phone Numbers & SMS

If you enable Accountability Blasts, you provide a buddy's name and phone number. Before any alert messages are sent, we send that person a one-time opt-in text asking them to reply YES to confirm or STOP to decline. We only send Accountability Blast alerts to numbers that have confirmed opt-in. You are responsible for having the right to share a contact's phone number with us for this purpose.

We do not store raw buddy phone numbers on our servers. They are transmitted directly to our SMS provider (Twilio) at send time. To enforce consent, we store only a one-way cryptographic hash of the number in our database. Furthermore, if a buddy replies STOP, Twilio permanently adds their raw number to a network-level blocklist to ensure they are never contacted again, which overrides any future user requests in our App.

4. Data Sharing

We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it for advertising purposes. We use the following service providers strictly to operate the App:

Each provider only receives the minimum data necessary to perform its function and is bound by its own privacy policy and applicable law.

5. Data Retention & Deletion

Because Wakey does not require a traditional account setup, most core alarm data lives locally on your device and is deleted when you uninstall the App.

However, if you utilize Wake-Up Stakes: We retain your installId, penalty accrual history, and Stripe payment tokens on our servers to manage batched charges and enforce your weekly caps. Uninstalling the App does not automatically delete this server-side data or cancel pending batched charges.

To permanently delete your payment association and installId profile from our servers, you must use the "Disconnect Payment" or "Delete App Data" option within the App settings before uninstalling. Alternatively, you may contact us with your installId (found in your App settings) to request manual deletion.

6. Children's Privacy

Wakey is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us information, contact us and we will remove it.

7. Your Rights

Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, or delete personal data we process. Because most Wakey data lives only on your device, deleting the App accomplishes this directly. For anything processed through our backend (e.g., an in-flight SMS request, or Wake-Up Stakes payment data), you must initiate a deletion request within the App or contact us at the address below providing your installId.

For Accountability Buddies: If you are a third party who received an SMS from Wakey and you wish to exercise your data privacy rights to have your hashed consent record completely removed from our systems, please email us at support@wakeyalarmapp.com.

8. Security

We use industry-standard measures to protect data in transit, including HTTPS/TLS for all network requests and secure on-device storage for sensitive values. No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure.

9. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Material changes will be reflected by updating the "Last updated" date above and, where appropriate, an in-app notice.
